Cuban designer Oscar de la Portilla dazzles on the catwalk

Villa Clara, Cuba, July 20 (Prensa Latina) Renowned Cuban artist and designer Oscar de la Portilla dazzled once again on Exuberarte catwalk, presenting his Habaneras collection at a prestigious event for the country’s design.

Exuberarte, an event that brings together the most prominent exponents of this art form every year in this central province, is the majestic celebration of artisanal fashion in Cuba, where designers make Telarte artistic designs, starting visual artists’ creations, stated Oscar de la Portilla in an interview with Prensa Latina.

This Telarte collection, inspired by the movement and gait of women, “is a journey through the diverse forms and styles of wearing an outfit casually,” with black and white pieces created by Oscar de la Portilla on rayon fabrics that play with the possibilities offered by their prints.

At this sixteenth edition, the creator of the Telarte project, where many of the country’s avant-garde painters graduated, experiences the pleasure of seeing his works captured in the fabrics made at the Desembarco del Granma Textile Company in Villa Clara.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets of the province undertook the task of rescuing Telarte with the main goal of saving the Exuberarte event, the only one of its kind in the Caribbean nation, he stated.

Each design by Oscar de la Portilla is revolutionary and unique; his creations showcase on the runways the artistry of someone who needs no praise or awards, as the greatest recognition lies in his exceptional work.

This year, the space was dedicated to the renowned Cuban visual artist and printmaker Lesbia Vent Dumois, who was honored with El Zarapico, a cultural symbol of Villa Clara.
