The newspaper echoed, in Sinhalese language, some statements on the matter made by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, who described as anti-Cuban politicians those carrying out the operation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as the person most responsible for using public funds in subversive plans against the island.
The Lanka Leader stated that Rodriguez’s criticism came after the Cuban Parliament rejected a Trump administration’s memorandum that strengthens the economic blockade and prohibits US tourism to Cuba.
While the US Congress approves cuts to national public services, certain sectors are promoting an injection of millions into programs aimed at subverting the Cuban constitutional order, the Cuban minister stated.
The Sri Lankan media noted that these statements coincide with the recent approval by the US Senate of a nine-million-dollar federal spending cut package, promoted by President Donald Trump, which has yet to be ratified by the House of Representatives.
It recalled that a day before Rodriguez’s statements, Cuba’s National People’s Power Assembly issued a statement condemning the June 30 presidential memorandum, which bans US tourism to the island and expands trade restrictions.
