In a meeting in Istanbul between officials from Iran and from those three countries, Baqaei said the encounter was an opportunity to abandon unconstructive policies that “harm Europe’s negotiating position and turn it into a marginal player in the Iranian nuclear issue.”
According to an interview published by IRNA, the diplomat explained that the European troika consciously undermined their status as “participants in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal” by repeatedly failing to fulfill their obligations and supporting US and Israeli military attacks against the nation’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
At the same time, he asserted that reinstating Security Council resolutions, which were repealed following the 2015 pact, has no legal, ethical, or logical justification, as Iran’s actions were a response to the failure of the United States and Europe to fulfill their obligations.
Baqaei maintained that the Islamic Republic suspended its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) after Washington and Tel Aviv attacked the country’s nuclear facilities in June.
At this point, the spokesperson added that any decision regarding Iran’s interaction with the IAEA is based on a recent law passed by Parliament, which requires that cooperation must have the permission and coordination of the Supreme National Security Council.
