In a statement to the SAFA news agency, the director general of the office, Ismail al-Thawabta, criticized the systematic military attacks on security personnel in the Gaza Strip, considered an attempt to disrupt any effort to protect aid convoys and ensure their delivery to those in need.

The aim is to undermine any plan of civilian control over the humanitarian situation and replace the responsible authorities with bands of looters and their agents in order to facilitate the theft of aid and distort the image of Palestinian society, he stressed.

Al-Thawabta claimed that such behaviour reflected Israel’s insistence on dismantling the internal organizational system of the coastal enclave and creating an atmosphere of chaos and looting.

This allows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to promote the idea that he lacks a reliable Palestinian partner to manage relief efforts, which contributes to his plans to restructure the humanitarian landscape in accordance with his political and security agenda, he warned.

The spokesman considered that attacking security personnel constitutes a crime under international humanitarian law because it has a direct impact on the disruption of aid distribution.

He also criticized the Israeli attempts to demonize any national effort to secure food and medicine that is sent to the territory by countries, non-governmental organizations and the United Nations.
