Under the general direction of Viengsay Valdes and the general coordination of maestro Mercedes Beltran, the classes have been attended since last Monday by students from Argentina, Brazil, Spain, the United States, Italy, Mexico, and Cuba.
From the Caribbean island, ballet students from the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Havana, Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Camaguey, Holguin, and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud are participating this time.
Until next Saturday, experienced teachers will teach classes in Ballet, Pointe, Variations, Pas de Deux, Repertoire, in the different variations of these specialties, and optional disciplines such as Contemporary Dance, Physical Preparation, Makeup, and Jazz. The latter subject is taught by Brazilian maestro Lidia Alves, a special guest.
According to a BNC release, the closing gala will take place on Sunday, August 24, at Covarrubias Hall of Havana’s National Theater.
The Dance Department of the National Ballet of Cuba recently held similar workshops in Caracas and Margarita Island, Venezuela, as part of its international outreach efforts.
