Prensa Latina Mourns death of prominent journalist VIctor Carriba

Havana, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina mourns the death today, at the age of 74, of prominent journalist VIctor Manuel Carriba Rodríguez.

Since his entry into Prensa Latina on February 28, 1971, Carriba has developed a long service record that includes correspondents in Romania, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, the United Nations, Costa Rica and several African countries.

As a war correspondent, he reported on military actions and the role of Cuban fighters in Angola from January to May 1977.

He also covered the first visit of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, to that African country and his tour in several provinces.

He was also present in Ethiopia (1979-1982), where he covered the conflict in that North African nation.

During that period, he reported on the first congress of the Mozambique Liberation Front, OAU summits in Addis Ababa, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Kenya, as well as elections in Uganda.

His commitment to Prensa Latina and professional experience led him to take on responsibilities at the head of the Commercial and Information Vice Presidency, as well as the management of the team of professionals’ Department.

Since the sad news was confirmed, the internal communication networks of this media were filled with messages of regret and thanks to Carriba and his wife, Mihosotti Alayón, also a worker of this agency, in which its support for the professional and personal growth of generations of journalists is highlighted.

In highlighting the human quality and professionalism of Victor Carriba, Vice President of Information, Alejandro Gomez, called him a great friend and defenderof Prensa Latina until his last breath.

The painful news follows the recent death of another prominent journalist of this agency, Edel Suarez.

Prensa Latina workers deeply regret the loss of these colleagues, considered references of professional ethics, human quality and commitment to the profession and the Revolution.
