Cuba Solidarity Movement in Chile pays tribute to Fidel

Santiago, Chile, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) The Solidarity Movement in Chile paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at a ceremony marking his 99th birthday, where several participants highlighted the relevance of his legacy.

Pedro Bronzic, on behalf of the Movement, remembered Fidel’s assistance to other nations around the world, the sending of medical brigades to many countries, such as Chile, and the training of more than 600 young Chileans at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana.

Bronzic noted that the 29th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will take place in Valparaiso in November.

Dozens of people, including members of political and social organizations, friends of the island, ELAM graduates, Cuban residents, and members of the diplomatic corps, participated in the meeting, which, as a tradition, is held annually by the Movement.

Claudio De Negri, head of International Relations for the Communist Party of Chile, remembered that he had the opportunity to meet the Cuban leader when he visited the country in 1971.

De Negri told Prensa Latina that Fidel is a universal figure and has been acknowledged by political leaders of different tendencies, religious leaders, environmentalists, and representatives of other sectors.

Cuban Ambassador to Chile, Mercedes Vicente, noted that Fidel’s figure far transcends the Cuban Revolution because he became a paradigm for the peoples fighting not only for their independence but also for social justice.
