Maldives elected Vice-President of the UN Human Rights Council

Male, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) Maldives' President Mohamed Muizzu welcomed on Tuesday his country's election to serve as Vice-President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the remainder of 2025.

In this role, the small South Asian archipelago will assume its responsibilities on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Group.

Muizzu affirmed in a post on his X profile that his country has a proven track record in defending human rights, especially in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The president described the new role for his nation as a milestone, which he underscored it reinforces the Maldives’ continued dedication to defend the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity, in line with the country’s strong commitment as an active member of the UNHRC.

Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ determination to work toward a fairer and more inclusive world for all.
