Serbian leader decries protests of destabilization of the country

Belgrade, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that the current protests seek to destabilization of the country, far from promoting reforms, the newspaper Vecernje Novosti reported. He noted that his government remains committed to dialogue and stability, strengthening democratic institutions.

He described the dichotomy between authoritarianism and capitulation to the opposition as false.

Vucic emphasized that democratic nations do not alter electoral calendars due to pressure from the public, as this harms citizens, and he emphatically denied reports of a possible civil war.

Analysts note that the crisis began in November after a train tragedy that left 15 dead in the city of Novi Sad.

The opposition is demanding early elections and holding the state responsible.

Experts believe that the recent violence, with attacks on official buildings, marks a dangerous escalation.

The government insists on institutional means to resolve the demands.
