In statements released through his official Facebook account, Barnieh specified that the US Treasury Department repealed sanctions imposed since 2004 under the state of emergency then declared against Syria, a decision that complies with the executive order previously signed by President Donald Trump.
The other measure, he explained, corresponds to the lifting by the Department of Commerce of restrictions on exports and re-exports of US products, services, and technologies, except for those of a military nature, which also includes the expediting of licenses.
The minister emphasized that access to US-made technology will have a direct impact on the recovery of local industry and will allow financial and banking institutions to modernize their systems, in line with the structural reforms underway.
Barnieh emphasized that there is ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Syria, and the Foreign Ministry with the US Treasury Department, as part of a rapprochement process aimed at supporting the reforms undertaken by Damascus.
