Chilean musicians unite in solidarity concert for Cuba

Santiago, Chile, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Groups and soloists, representing a wide variety of genres and styles, delighted the audience at a Musical Marathon of Love for Cuba held at Manuel de Salas High School in the Chilean capital.

The concert, organized by solidarity groups, took place in the context of the 20th anniversary of the first graduation of young people from the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Havana, with the additional goal of raising funds to send medicines and supplies to Cuban hospitals.

“I have a great love for Cuba, I am very grateful because I owe an important part of my work as an artist to that country,” singer-songwriter Francisco “Pancho” Villa, who opened the concert last night, told Prensa Latina.

Another band present at the marathon was the band “Los Insobornables,” founded by former Inti Illimani member Max Berru and focused on popular music and Latin American folklore.

“When they invited us, it was very spontaneous, and we said we had to be there,” musician and singer Cristobal Berru told this agency. He expressed that his father always instilled in him a love for the people and, above all, solidarity, and Cuba is an example of this with the dispatch of doctors to other countries in cases of catastrophes.

For singer and composer Juanito Ayala, with more than 25 years of experience in music, it is always important to collaborate with the causes of the people, and that is why, he said, every time there is a solidarity event with Cuba, we are here.

Ayala, of Palestinian origin, who decried the blockade maintained by the United States against Cuba and the genocide committed by Israel in Gaza, said, “These concerts keep us in tune and give us the strength to not never give up.”
