The first text, by Haki Adi, invites to “an organized and engaging review of the subjects (figures, events, and organizations) that have shaped the different forms adopted by this movement (or ideology) at different historical moments and in diverse geographical settings.”
According to a statement from the Cuban Book Institute, the organization hosting the event, Adi traces “a journey that goes from the first personalities and organizations that, in the 17th century, faced the common challenges of Africans in the diaspora to the most contemporary and internationally recognized expressions of the defense of Black rights.”
The second literary proposal is a compilation of texts coordinated by Zuleica Romay Guerra that brings together the proceedings of the International Summer Course “Marxist Thought and Political Practices in Afro-America,” held at Havana cultural institution in June 2023.
This production brings together the lectures given by the speakers, the book presentations, and the debates that took place during those sessions.
Its reading provides “a theoretical and methodological framework that supports the importance of reflecting on diversity in Latin America and the Caribbean from a Marxist perspective, and of exploring the history of the Afro-descendant peoples of the region.”
