Presidents of Belarus and Uzbekistan in China for SCO Summit

Tianjin, China, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Belarus and China established diplomatic relations in 1992, and the country was one of the first ones to join the Beijing-led Belt and Road Initiative.

In September 2022, the two nations upgraded their relationship to a “comprehensive and trustworthy strategic partner.”

China is Belarus’s second-largest trading partner, and economic and political ties place special emphasis on cooperation in infrastructure and technology.

For its part, Uzbekistan is one of the founding members of the SCO and, in January 2024, announced a new era of comprehensive strategic partnership with Beijing.

Within the framework of the SCO summit, the two nations will hold an Investment and Trade Forum with the participation of 600 business leaders from both countries.

Following the summit, President Mirziyoyev will travel to the capital of the Asian giant to participate in commemorative activities for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II.
