Colombia holds forum on Repatriation of Cultural Property

Bogota, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) The International Forum on the Restitution and Repatriation of Cultural Property begins in this capital with the participation of delegations from Egypt, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, and Cameroon, along with communities, officials, and experts in heritage management and regulation.

The meeting aims to move forward guidelines for a public policy that will guide the restitution and repatriation of cultural property, contributing to recovering the country’s memory and history, the Foreign Ministry announced.

Catalina Ceballos, Director of Cultural Affairs at the diplomatic institution, stated that the event will contribute to settling historical debts and establishing a principle of sovereignty, as it is another way of conducting diplomacy.

The forum takes place at Teresa Cuervo Auditorium of the National Museum of Colombia this Monday and Tuesday.

Issues such as historical justice, cultural diplomacy, the prevention of illicit trafficking, and international legal frameworks will be addressed during the event.

The Foreign Ministry noted that 972 archaeological objects have returned to Colombia during the current administration, thanks to diplomatic dialogue and partnerships with governments, museums, and multilateral organizations.
