ASEAN Environment Meeting opens in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME-18) kicked off from Tuesday to September 4 at Langkawi International Conference Center in Malaysia, the current president of the regional bloc, to discuss sustainability and inclusive environmental management.

In addition to Malaysia, other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) include Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

ASEAN environment ministers and senior officials met this time to discuss regional cooperation on sustainability and inclusive environmental management.

According to the planned agenda, this summit will convene the 20th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution (COP-20 AATHP) and related meetings.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability expects progress on the establishment of the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change and details of the adoption of the ASEAN Strategic Action Plan on Climate Change.

A Joint ASEAN Declaration will be finalized for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
