Youssouf expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and his solidarity with the only confirmed survivor of what is considered one of the worst natural disasters in the history of this African country.
In these painful circumstances, he reaffirmed the continental organization’s unwavering solidarity with the affected populations and called on all Sudanese groups to silence their guns and unite to allow for the rapid and effective delivery of emergency humanitarian aid to the victims.
The tragedy occurred this Sunday after several days of intense rainfall in the so-called Marrah Mountains, a volcanic range in Central Darfur, and among the dead are hundreds of women and children.
