“The Secretary’s fourth trip to our hemisphere shows the United States’ strong commitment to protecting its borders, neutralizing narco-terrorist threats to our territory, and ensuring a level playing field for US businesses,” a State Department statement noted.
The program informed that Rubio will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday. Those issues are expected to be discussed, and there is also the possibility that a security agreement is on the table.
Rubio will hold talks with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa on Thursday in a meeting that will also include similar issues.
A US Congressional delegation has already met in Quito with Ecuadorian Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo.
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld commented that, among the cooperation talks between the two nations, the United States requested an agreement through which it could receive up to 300 people per year sent from the northern nation.
