Gaza on screens at Venice Film Festival

Rome, Sept 3 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli government's aggression against Palestine is featured at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, with the film The Voice of Hind competing for the Golden Lion for Best Film.

The Voice of Hind Rajab (2025), its English title, depicts in 89 minutes the final moments of six-year-old Hind, trapped in a car during an Israeli bombing while the Red Crescent tries to rescue her. This film, a Tunisian-French co-production based on true events, tells the story of Hind Rajab, a girl killed by the Israeli army along with her two uncles, four cousins, and the two occupants of the ambulance that was going to rescue them in the Gaza neighborhood of Tel al-Hawa, on January 29, 2024, according to a commentary in the newspaper El Mundo.

The film used actual audio recordings kept by the Red Crescent, and at times, photographs of the protagonists are superimposed over those of the actors, the publication adds.

This is not the only example of protests against the genocide in Gaza during the 82nd edition of the Festival, one of the most prestigious in the world.

On August 30, more than 5,000 people, organized by the Venice4Palestine (V4P) workers’ collective, held a peaceful protest on Lido Island, the event’s venue, condemning the genocide in Gaza.

Days earlier, the same collective sent requests for exclusion of actors who supported Israel, but this request was denied, as the festival’s management considers it a space for open dialogue.
