Latin America wants peace, Nicaraguan co-president said

Managua, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguan co-President Daniel Ortega denounced the threat against Venezuela maintained by the United States government with its military deployment in the southern Caribbean Sea and affirmed that Latin America wants peace.

In a speech on Tuesday evening during a ceremony marking the 46th anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army’s founding, Ortega stated that Washington uses these actions to intimidate other countries.

Before officers, soldiers, the diplomatic corps, and other guests gathered in La Fe Plaza in Managua, the president commented that such actions are a way for the United States to “show that they are tough.”

Ortega referred to the US arguments for the alleged fight against drug trafficking for carrying out this naval deployment and stated that the Sandinista Executive rejects them.

He emphasized that the US Government, despite having more capital than anyone else, has no capacity to stop drug use in the United States.

The Nicaraguan president described the presence of warships, planes, and soldiers in Caribbean waters to threaten the Bolivarian Revolution and President Nicolas Maduro as clowning and theater.

I hope they realize that what they are doing is generating a negative opinion in Latin America, Ortega stated, while reiterating his solidarity with the Venezuelan president and his people, whom he described as heroic and brave.
