Cuba and China celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations

Beijing, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) China and Cuba commemorated 65 years of diplomatic relations, event held as part ursday, celebration that takes part during the visit of President Miguel Diaz-Canel to this nation.

At an event at held at the headquarters of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), both nations underscored the special bond marked by broad multisectoral cooperation, high mutual political trust, consensus-building on international issues, and mutual support for each other’s core interests.

The Cuban president previously spoke with his host counterpart, Xi Jinping, who pointed out the strong friendship between the two nations and Communist Parties.

The Cuban head of State highlighted China’s support during crucial moments since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, as well as Beijing’s constant denunciation of the US blockade.

Diaz-Canel added, “The special relations that unite us have deep historical roots, are based on similar purposes and ideals, and have been accompanied by the personal attention, guidance, and high priority given by the top leaders of both countries, from the historic generation to the present, with interparty ties as their cornerstone.”

At the ceremony, the Cuban president awarded Yang Wanming, President of the CPAFFC, with the Friendship Medal of the Cuban Institute Institute (ICAP).

On September 2, 1960, before more than one million Cubans, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, urged the government of Taiwan to break off relations to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China of Mao Zedong, thus becaming the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish ties with the new China.
