The Russian presidential spokesperson, who talked to reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6, noted that Moscow sees the presence of international troops, or any foreign or NATO troops, on Ukrainian soil as a threat.
Peskov emphasized that Ukraine’s security cannot be ensured at the expense of Russia’s security. “As we understand, this does not make it any easier to move closer to a solution to the Ukrainian conflict,” he pointed out.
He emphasized that Russia will do everything in its power to ensure its security. “NATO’s presence near Russia’s borders is a real threat to our country, because we are NATO’s enemy, as stated in the documents of this bloc. That is why we cannot allow it and will do everything possible to ensure our security,” he stressed.
Great Britain and France, both NATO members, are leading a coalition of about 20 states that intend to send troops to Ukraine following the signing of a ceasefire pact or a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Russian forces have been conducting a special military operation since February 24, 2022, to halt Ukrainian shelling of civilians in Donetsk and Lugansk, two territories that gained independence from Ukraine in 2014 and joined Russia in September 2022 after holding referendums.
