During a meeting with President Felix Tshisekedi, Lacroix lamented the persistence of violence in eastern Congo and the failure to fulfill some of the commitments made in the agreement signed with Rwanda and the Declaration of Principles signed with the Congo River Alliance-March 23 Movement.
He reaffirmed the UN’s determination to continue working with the Congolese authorities and thanked the head of State for recognizing the work of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO).
According to the Presidency, the Under-Secretary-General said he expects a high-level presence of the Congolese authorities at the UN General Assembly, which will be held in a few weeks, and later in December, during the debate on the renewal of MONUSCO’s mandate.
He also expressed satisfaction with the DRC’s inclusion in the UN Security Council next year, a period for which he offered his full cooperation.
