Panama maintains vigilance due to heavy rains

Panama City, Sept 7 (Prensa Latina) The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA) extended its vigilance advisory today until Tuesday due to heavy rains and significant thunderstorms throughout the country.

According to the report, the decision is due to the arrival of tropical wave number 29 of the season in the next 24 hours, which is moving at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour and is currently hovering over Colombian territory.

The IMHPA specified that this atmospheric system will influence weather conditions in Panama over the next few days.

It also specifies that the measure includes the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Colón, Panamá Oeste, Panamá, Darién, and the Ngäbe-Buglé, Emberá-Wounaan, and Guna Yala regions.

Accumulated rainfall could range between 50 and 100 millimeters per day in the areas most affected and between 20 and 60 millimeters in the rest of the country, the report adds.

This rainfall will be accompanied by electrical activity, gusty winds, and could cause flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides, the IMHPA adds.
