According to the director of the Colombian National Police, General Carlos Fernando Triana, the criminal group consisted of a dozen members and had connections in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
The leader of the gang, which included seven Colombians, two Austrians, one Romanian, and one Uruguayan, is believed to be a Turkish citizen with arrest warrants in dozens of countries.
Five of those accused of trafficking have already been captured in Colombian territory and are now at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office for the respective extradition process.
The identified victims, who so far number 48, were vulnerable women from Bogotá, Medellin, and Cartagena, who were recruited through deception via social media and mutual acquaintances.
These individuals were fined €40,000 upon arrival in Europe, and to settle this debt, they were forced into prostitution.
According to Triana, the real-time exchange of information was crucial in consolidating the investigative process, which lasted approximately nine months.
