Colombia: Pacto Historico asks to expedite legal status granting

Bogota, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The coalition of progressive movements in Colombia, Pacto Historico, filed a legal appeal to the National Electoral Council (CNE) for delaying the process of granting legal status to the organization as a single political group.

In a statement released through its official channels, the association asked the aforementioned body to act expeditiously, as the legal deadline of 30 business days to resolve this request has already expired.

“Noncompliance prolongs an injustice and violates the right of millions of citizens to effectively participate in the country’s political life,” the coalition Pacto Historico argued.

It added that this coalition currently represents one of the broadest political forces with the greatest citizen support in Colombia, while emphasizing that its legal recognition constitutes an act of democratic justice that will allow the consolidation of a collective project of unity, pluralism, and equality in the electoral contest.

Furthermore, he argued that the merger process, submitted on June 13, meets all legal requirements, guarantees the assumption of rights and obligations of the participating groups, and fully respects the constitutional and legal framework.

The groups seeking to merge under a single political umbrella are the Patriotic Union, the Alternative Democratic Pole, the Colombian Communist Party, Human Colombia, Progresistas, and the Political and Social Minga.

Also during this session, local media outlets such as La Silla Vacia reported that the CNE has already prepared the proposal defining the unification, but only with the integration of the first three aforementioned parties.
