Cuban Government closely monitors complex electrical situation

Havana, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel said today that the Cuban government is giving priority attention to the critical situation of the electricity generation system, especially in the eastern region, where a gradual restoration of service is underway.

In a message posted on social networks, the head of state highlighted the sustained effort of the Electric Union workers, whom he thanked for their work.

“Back to #Cuba we closely follow the critical situation with electricity generation and gradual restoration of service in the eastern region, thanks to the Electric Union workers,” wrote the president in X, adding that “the topic has been a priority in all our dialogues during our Asia tour”.

On the eve, a shot on a 220 kV line caused the disconnection of the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) from the province of Las Tunas to Guantánamo, in the east of the Caribbean country.

According to reports from the Ministry of Energy and Mines on social networks, at 1:25 this morning (local time) was managed to restore the electricity system in the affected territories.

The director of Electricity of the portfolio, Lázaro Guerra, told the national television that the disconnection of SEN occurred due to adverse weather conditions in the area.

Cuba is immersed in a strategy for the electroenergetic recovery, which has among its key elements to achieve energy sovereignty in the shortest possible time, with the aim of meeting the needs of the population and the economy, rehabilitate the networks, finding solutions for emergency generators and advancing the energy transition.
