China with the world’s largest medical service system

Beijing, Sept 11 (Prensa Latina) China has the world's largest medical service system, with a total of 1.09 million healthcare institutions, reported Lei Haichao, head of the National Health Commission.

Referencing the achievements of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) in health, the official added that more than 90 percent of residents can access a medical care point within a 15-minute radius.

The country has also established the most extensive disease prevention and control system in the world, covering the central, provincial, municipal, and county levels, and health literacy among the population increased from 23.2 percent in 2020 to 31.9 percent in 2024, he stated.

China, which is promoting a balanced distribution of resources to reduce the gap between eastern, central, and western regions, launched a project to strengthen basic medical infrastructure for the next five years, a plan that seeks to improve the capacity and accessibility of services in communities.

Beijing, which prioritizes prevention in its health system and promotes public sanitation campaigns with broad citizen participation, reports that the rate of overweight and obesity in children under six years of age has fallen from 10.4 to 9.7 percent in the last five years.

The rates of stunting and underweight in this same age group have decreased to 4.5 and 1.4 percent, respectively.

The average height of adolescents aged six to 17 has increased by 2.1 centimeters for males and 2.2 for females.
