Israeli forces continue violating Syrian sovereignty

Damascus, Sept 12 (Prensa Latina) Israeli occupation forces invaded the town of Samdaniya, in the southwestern province of Quneitra, where they established a checkpoint.

According to local residents’ reports, the operation took place a few hours after Israeli troops stormed the village of Abdin, in the Yarmouk Basin region of the neighboring Daraa governorate, in an escalation of actions reinforcing Tel Aviv’s military presence in areas bordering the occupied Golan Heights.

According to reports released by Syria TV, a patrol consisting of seven Israeli military vehicles entered Samdaniya amid a high state of alert along the border between Syria and the occupied Golan Heights.

During the incursion, Israeli troops carried out searches and raids in the area, although no arrests were reported, and also inspected vehicles traveling between Samdaniya and Al-Ajraf.

In a related development, Israel released a Syrian citizen and his son, one day after their arrest during the raid in the town of Abdin, Daraa.

Although there have been no official statements so far from the Syrian authorities or the Israeli occupation regarding the operations or the reasons behind the arrests, Damascus has repeatedly condemned Israeli violations of its sovereignty and reaffirmed its commitment to the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, signed after the October 1973 Arab-Israeli War.

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, Israel has intensified its incursions into Syrian territory, despite efforts by the new administration in Damascus to restore internal stability, advance economic recovery, and guarantee national security.
