Spanish ministers reject Netanyahu’s accusations

Madrid, Sept 12 (Prensa Latina) Defense Minister Margarita Robles harshly responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for misrepresenting Pedro Sanchez's remarks on nuclear weapons.

In an interview with Antena 3’s Espejo Publico program, Robles stated that Netanyahu cannot lecture when he is taking a military offensive against Gaza Strip that has claimed more than 60,000 lives so far.

Regarding the remarks by the head of the Spanish government, Robles made it clear that they were intended to show that the Iberian country is trying to provide solutions to the Middle East conflict, but not from a military perspective.

In the announcement of nine measures adopted by the Moncloa Palace against Israel focused on the transfer of arms or the entry of officials linked to the massacre in Gaza, the Minister of Defense recalled that Sanchez had said that Spain “does not have nuclear bombs, nor aircraft carriers or large oil reserves; we cannot stop the Israeli offensive alone.”

The Israeli leader accused Sanchez of issuing “genocidal threats” against the Hebrew state. In this regard, the Foreign Ministry released a statement emphasizing that “the Spanish people are friends of the people of Israel and the people of Palestine.”

The statement pointed out that “regarding the false and slanderous comments made by the office of the Prime Minister of Israel toward Spain, the Government reiterates its immediate condemnation of the atrocious attack committed on October 7 by the terrorist group Hamas.”

He emphasized that from day one, he demanded the unconditional release of all hostages and made it clear that Spain rejects any form of antisemitism, racism, xenophobia, or intolerance and has welcomed 72,000 Sephardim as nationals in recent years as a result of specific legislation for them.
