Suspected Ebola cases rise in DRC

Kinshasa, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The number of suspected Ebola cases continues to rise in Kasai province, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where it grew from 28 to 68 in the last week.

Data from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) stated that the outbreak declared on September 4 in the Bulape health zone has spread from two to four districts, and one more death was recorded, totaling 16.

Following the declaration of the epidemic by Health Minister Roger Kamba, the country activated the Public Health Emergency Operations Center’s Incident Management System (IMS), with the deployment of rapid response teams.

Strengthening epidemiological surveillance, establishing triage and isolation centers, restricting public movement, and setting up checkpoints at the main entrances to Tshikapa, the provincial capital, were also provided.

Health authorities began vaccinating frontline workers, groups comprised of national health personnel, as well as experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa CDC.
