Cuba: Photovoltaic solar park opens in Ciego de Avila

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Sept 13 (Prensa Latina) The province of Ciego de Avila contributes with more than 81 megawatts of renewable energy to the National Electric Energy System (SEN) through the three photovoltaic solar parks operating in this central Cuban territory.

The Commander of the Cuban Revolution, Ramiro Valdes, officially inaugurated the site located within La Cuba production center, the third largest in the province of Ciego de Avila with a generating capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW).

Named Santiago Rojas, the facility, in addition to providing power to the SEN, will also distribute electricity to the more than 100 water pumping stations of this agricultural company.

The governor of Ciego de Avila, Alfredo Menendez, stated that the generating unit has been connected to the national grid since mid-July, one month ahead of schedule, and its implementation is vital to the strategy of increasing renewable sources in the country’s energy mix.

The province has two other new-type photovoltaic solar parks, Cruce de la Trocha and Carolina, out of a general program of six, which can provide 59.3 MW of clean energy.
