Uruguayan President travels to the UN with strong agenda in New York

Montevideo, Sept 21 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan president, Yamandú Orsi, travels today to New York where he will participate in his first UN General Assembly, hold working meetings and participate in an international tribute to former president Jose Mujica.

Orsi will hand over the command here to Vice President Carolina Cosse, before embarking on the journey accompanied by Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Gabriel Oddone, the Minister of Public Health, Cristina Lustemberg, and the Minister of Environment, Edgardo Ortuño.

He is expected to speak from the podium of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, at a time when it has advocated multilateralism and when the genocide committed by Israel calls for global solidarity, including recognition of a Palestinian state.

On Wednesday, September 23, the Uruguayan president will participate in the tribute to Mujica at the University of New York.

It is expected the attendance of the president of the Spanish government, Pedro, Sanchez; and the presidents of Brazil, Chile and Colombia, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Gabriel Boric, and Gustavo Petro, respectively, in addition to the US senator Bernie Sanders.

The agenda of the Uruguayan government includes other meetings, like the meeting with businessmen from the Council of the Americas.

With the preparation of the 2030 World Cup as a goal, Yamandú Orsi will meet with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and authorities from the South American Football Confederation.

He is scheduled to return to his country next Saturday, September 27.
