The historic verdict was issued on September 11 by the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), by a four-to-one vote.
In addition to Bolsonaro, seven other allies, including figures such as Generals Walter Braga Netto and Augusto Heleno, received sentences ranging from 16 to 27 years in prison.
The convictions were based on crimes such as attempted coup d’etat, armed criminal organization, and damage to public property.
Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since August 4, after being accused of violating precautionary measures imposed by the STF in another judicial proceeding.
His defense team is requesting that this measure be revoked, arguing that there are no formal charges against him in relation to the investigation that led to his arrest.
If the Supreme Court rejects the appeals, the execution of the sentences could begin between November and December.
