Saudi Arabia and Qatar fund salaries in Syrian public sector

United Nations, Sept 25 (Prensa Latina) In a show of Arab cooperation, Saudi Arabia and Qatar announced the creation of a joint fund worth $89 million to pay salaries in the Syrian public sector.

This initiative was formalized at the headquarters of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The document aims at supporting essential social service workers in Syria for three months, a nation that has faced the ravages of war and sanctions for more than a decade.

Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Qabbat participated in the signing ceremony, where she reiterated her commitment to institutional strengthening and economic recovery in the Levantine country.

According to the Executive Director of the Saudi Fund for Development, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, this contribution is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to support regional stability and facilitate a sustainable recovery in Syria.

For his part, the head of the Qatar Fund for Development, Fahad bin Hamad Al-Sulaiti, emphasized that this action reflects a shared vision to strengthen the resilience of the Syrian people through investments in vital basic services such as health, education, and social assistance.
