During the opening ceremony, Xinhua President Fu Hua presented the expert report entitled “A Mighty River That Nourishes a Great Nation.”
The report utilizes case studies and data to demonstrate that the protection of the ecological environment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt has reached a turning point.
He added that the historic achievements of economic and social development have created a successful situation in which clear water flows eastward, industries are booming, culture is thriving, and people remain healthy.
UNESCO Deputy Director-General Qu Xing highlighted the indispensable role of rivers in the development of civilizations and called for enhancing international cooperation to address current challenges in their preservation.
