Isabel Allende shakes the audience at opening of Montevideo Book Fair

Montevideo, Sept 26 (Prensa Latina) Writer Isabel Allende filled the main hall of Solis Theater in this capital at the opening of the 47th Montevideo Book Fair, which features the Chilean novelist among its main attractions.

The audience filled the venue, and her presentation was broadcast live from Montevideo City Hall, the main venue of the fair. Allende spoke with former journalist and current senator for the Frente Amplio party, Blanca Rodriguez, about her latest book, titled “My Name is Emilia del Valle.”

The work is related to her first novel, “The House of the Spirits,” which tells the story of the Trueba family over four generations from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1970s, through the political movements of Chile’s post-viceregal period.

“My Name is Emilia del Valle” stars a writer who travels to Chile to cover the country’s civil war in 1891.

The Chilean narrator brought some news. She announced that “The House of the Spirits” is returning in a series adaptation that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video next year.

This will be the second time it hits the screen. The previous version, from 1993, featured Anglo-Saxon actors, led by Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Antonio Banderas, and Winona Ryder.

This time, the cast is comprised of Latin American actors and was filmed in Chile, unlike the film, which was shot in Europe.

Isabel Allende, 83, who said this will likely be her last visit to Chile, explained that she is focused on her farewell world tour, as she wants to settle down for a longer time in her home in California, United States.
