Representatives of the Secretariat of Agriculture of this Latin American nation and the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) participated in the meeting to present the results of the Vida y Campo Project, which began in May 2022 and will conclude next October.
During the meeting, the head of the Mexican ministry, Julio Berdegue, highlighted the role of producers in the agroecological transition, because “they reflect the deep roots of agriculture” of this nation and also the future.
Mentioning that President Claudia Sheinbaum placed sustainability and innovation as axes of the agricultural policy, he referred that starting next year the certificate of agro-export free of deforestation and irregular work will be implemented.
“We are not interested in agriculture and livestock exports that are built on the basis of informal, poorly paid, risky, unprotected work without social security rights,” he said.
Both countries agreed to establish synergies between Vida y Campo and the new Sustainable Agriculture project, exploring the possibility of contributing to compliance with the European Regulation on Deforestation, according to a press release from the Secretariat.
