The Spanish Foreign Ministry reported the Government’s determination to maintain its absolute support for UNRWA, which has lost more than 300 staff members due to the Israeli massacre in the Gaza Strip.
The source noted that Jose Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, emphasized the importance of the financial contribution and stressed that Spain must set example so that other countries increase their support.
Albares, who participated alongside UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and his counterparts of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and Brazil, Mauro Vieira, in a speech in New York, remembered that Spain has contributed more than 60 million euros to the Agency since October 2023.
An additional 10 million euros has also been allocated to the UN agency since September.
The minister announced that this commitment to UNRWA will remain unwavering in 2026, arguing that “Spain cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of Palestine.” jdt/iff/otf/ft
