Speaking at the forum, held in the context of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the senior diplomat emphasized that an aggression is being prepared against his country “with increasing force, intensity, and more lies.”

He stressed that the Venezuelan people are prepared to resist and win in perfect national unity and warned that the escalation of a conflict or aggression, no matter how small, “would become a catastrophe” for the entire region because it is not Venezuela they are attacking, but the entire Caribbean and Latin America.

The Bolivarian Foreign Minister affirmed that they are peace-loving and proposed a path of dialogue, diplomacy, and understanding, including with “those who have systematically violated the UN Charter and have constantly threatened them,” a clear reference to the United States.

Gil stated that this “is the most sacred value we have in our beloved land, and we must make every effort to preserve it,” for which the Charter is an ideal mechanism, although it could be improved, but we must constantly resort to it, he noted.

He affirmed that Venezuela is experiencing another violation of the Charter’s principles when the South American nation is subjected “to the threat of the use of force against a sovereign country and member of the United Nations.”

In this regard, he referred on the deployment of a significant military contingent in the Caribbean with eight missile-destroyer ships, nuclear submarines, and trained troops, under the “false excuse of combating illicit drug trafficking,” in addition to accusing President Nicolás Maduro of being a sponsor.
