Colombia surpasses 13 percent of clean sources in its energy matrix

Bogota, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) 13.87 percent of Colombia's energy matrix is currently based on so-called clean generation sources, primarily solar and wind, according to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

The ministry noted that this progress is substantial considering that three years ago this percentage was barely two percent, and attributed the sector’s progress to the design of projects such as Colombia Solar and the 6GW Plus Plan.

The first of these initiatives makes it easier for the poorest households to obtain solar panels, allowing low-income families to self-generate their energy.

This reduces bill costs, and in some cases, users even avoid having to pay for their consumption.

Minister Edwin Palma stated that the fundamental objective of the program is to guarantee basic subsistence consumption for Colombian households, reduce electricity costs, and free up income, in addition to improving the sustainability of the subsidy fund.

Added to these goals is the ambition to promote the Just Energy Transition policy with clean sources and encourage investment and employment in renewable energy.

So far in 2025, the government has made progress in the approval and execution of various projects that boost the strategy of replacing fossil fuels, the ministerial source also highlighted.
