During his speech at the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Bu denounced the unilateral and illegal sanctions that strangle economies and condemn people to misery.
“These measures, like those imposed for decades against Cuba, must end immediately,” demanded the Honduran Foreign Minister, speaking on behalf of the government of President Xiomara Castro.
He affirmed that the foreign policy of the Castro administration, whose four-year term will conclude in January 2026, is based on unrestricted respect for sovereignty, the self-determination of peoples, and human rights.
Along these lines, he specified that the Central American nation “unreservedly condemns and considers unacceptable all forms of foreign occupation and threats of military interference in our hemisphere,” an obvious reference to the deployment of United States troops in the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The Foreign Minister considered that actions such as these consist of the denial of the right of peoples to constitute themselves as free and sovereign states: this right is inalienable, and its recognition can no longer be postponed or manipulated, he emphasized.
No rhetorical justification can legitimize the violation of sovereignty and the subjugation of nations, he emphasized. “That is why today, before this General Assembly, we reaffirm our recognition of the State of Palestine, consistent with the historic commitment and our unwavering stance in favor of peace, security, and the coexistence of two states in the Middle East,” Bu emphasized.
