Former presidential advisor and ex-alzados to change prisons in Peru

Lima, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Former Peruvian presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos, the former head of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA), Victor Polay, and former rebels Oscar Ramirez and Florindo Flores, will be moved from a naval base to another prison, it was officially announced.

This was stated in a communique from the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), whose president, Ivan Paredes informed that the transfer of the four prisoners from the impregnable prison of maximum rigor built at the Naval Base in the nearby port of Callao, will take effect in January 2026.

He informed that the transfer is due to the fact that last August the agreement between INPE and the Navy, which does not want the prison to remain in its base, expired and has been postponed until next January, as a fatal plan.

The official pointed out that the INPE has decided that the four inmates will be imprisoned in the Ancon 2 prison, because it has an isolated area where the four inmates will be permanently watched and all their movements will be observed.

Former MRTA leader Polay, sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime of terrorism, will serve his sentence next year.

Both Polay and Montesinos, also sentenced to 25 years, will also serve 80 years and the latter was convicted of murder, kidnapping, forced disappearance and other serious charges.
