At the opening of the international conference “Colonialism, Neocolonialism, and the Territorial Dispossession of Western Imperialism,” which will take place for two days at the Casa Amarilla (Yellow House) of the Foreign Ministry, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister recounted Simon Bolivar’s struggle for the independence of the Americas.
In the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps and more than 100 international guests from 57 countries, Gil noted that, from the early 19th century, the Liberator recognized the evils of colonialism for the region.
The Bolivarian Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that with Bolivar, the Venezuelan homeland will continue to be built, and that the Bolivarian Revolution, led by Nicolás Maduro, defends those principles “with the greatest possible ferocity, courage, and love.”
He denounced the fact that colonial spaces still persist in Our America and gave special salute to the Puerto Rican delegation, which “sooner rather than later will build and consolidate its independent and sovereign path to cease being a colony.”
He also stated that we have a colonial and anachronistic presence in the Caribbean, and in South America, enclaves that persist into the 21st century, such as the Malvinas Islands in Argentina, where, unfortunately, “we see a miserable government capable of kneeling before colonial power and surrendering its territory.”
