The group entered the country through the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing, bound for several governorates, including Idlib, Aleppo, Homs, and Hama.
Abdullah Hassan, head of the Immigration and Passport Department at the crossing, noted that all necessary measures were adopted to ensure a safe and orderly return, in partnership with the responsible institutions.
Laila Anbatawi, an official from the Department of Return and Reintegration, stated that the convoy had logistical support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNHCR in Lebanon, which provided transportation and assistance throughout the journey to the destinations.
Since early 2025, more than 238,000 refugees have returned under this mechanism, UNHCR and IOM recently informed in a joint statement.
These operations began in late July with the return of 72 people and will continue in the coming weeks, in line with a program established by those agencies.
The return of Syrian refugees is an issue of widespread debate in Lebanon, which still hosts more than one million Syrian citizens, representing a significant pressure on the country’s economy, public services, and social fabric.
