The announcement was made the day before in an audiovisual message on his Telegram account by President and Commander-in-Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Nicolas Maduro, who announced the activation of the ZODIs on part of the border “with our sister country Colombia.”
Maduro indicated that they conducted a preliminary assessment of Operation Independencia 200, which began last week and covers 16 states of the country as of Thursday, the vast majority of which border the Caribbean Sea.
To date, the following have been activated: La Guaira, Carabobo, Aragua, Zulia, Falcon, Anzoategui, Monagas, Bolivar, Nueva Esparta, Sucre, Delta Amacuro, Miranda, Caracas, Tachira, Apure, and Amazonas.
The head of state described the activation of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zones and the completion of the 27 comprehensive defense tasks in Sucre, Nueva Esparta, and Delta Amacuro as an “absolute success,” “the entire Atlantic Caribbean facade of Venezuela in the exercise of sovereignty,” he noted.
He noted that this included the deployment of equipment and the activation of all popular, military, and police forces.
The president emphasized that the deployment and preparation of the forces in the ZODIs was “a complete success.”
