Colombia to ratify rejection of US blockade against Cuba at UN

Bogota, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Colombia's Deputy Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs, Mauricio Jaramillo, affirmed on Friday that his country will once again support Cuba at the United Nations this year in its demand to end the United States-imposed blockade.

Jaramillo told Prensa Latina that his government’s stance is to condemn all unilateral measures, including “the unjust, punishment, and illegal US blockade,” against Cuba.

The foreign minister emphasized that each reinforcement of that siege is not only a challenge for the Cuban population but also a challenge to international law.

He affirmed, “Within the framework of the United Nations, we have always condemned it. Except for some shameful and subservient governments, the Colombian government’s stance is to always defend international law and express our solidarity with the Cuban people.”

The island nation will submit to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on October 28-29 the 79/7 resolution, entitled “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” of the updated report from March 2024 to February 2025.

On the eve of this event, Jaramillo assured that the Caribbean country could count on Colombia’s support.

Regarding Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, he commented that all these classifications, which “have no basis, speak of an anachronism in United States foreign policy.”
