Cuba reaffirms solidarity with Venezuela’s people and government

Havana, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) More than 50,000 Cubans gathered in this capital on Friday to reaffirm their solidarity with the Venezuelan people and President Nicolas Maduro.

The event was presided over by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and included the participation of other local authorities and Pedro Infante, First Vice President of the Venezuelan National Assembly (Parliament).

Infante said, “I bring in my voice the echo of the Liberator and Commander Hugo Chavez, a fraternal embrace, and infinite gratitude to this nation. Cuba and Venezuela are sister nations that represent the heritage of the struggle for liberation and independence.”

The Venezuelan first vice president also reaffirmed that both are nations of peace with peoples and governments that are victims of US supremacy.

He said, “From this platform, we join the call for ending xenophobic statements and the persecution of Venezuelans and other migrants.”

He added, “We will continue promoting Latin American and Caribbean unity and integration because we are not their backyard; we are sovereign and independent republics willing to give our lives in defense of our peoples if necessary.”

The occasion served so that Diaz-Canel delivered Infante the first book of signatures, led by Army General Raul Castro Ruz and followed by more than four million signatures as a support of the Cuban Government’s Declaration backing the Bolivarian nation.

In times when barbarism threatens world peace, Cuba unites to ratify that Venezuela is not alone and shows, before the world, its solidarity with its people and government, as it feels its struggle and victories as its own.
