In the first of these territories, an area corresponding to 11,381 hectares was declared, representing 44.8 percent of the municipality’s total surface area.
Meanwhile, in the second, a total of 3,498 hectares were identified, or 24.36 percent of Fredonia.
The identification of the APPAs incorporated a participatory component for both entities and communities, in compliance with both institutional guidelines and constitutional principles, according to information from the ministry.
Minister Marta Carvajalino considered that the designation of these APPAs reflects and recognizes the agricultural production of many families and the protection of the soils that today make food a fundamental element in the economy of these municipalities.
“With this declaration, we reaffirm our decision to protect agricultural lands and offer municipalities technical resources that will allow them, within the framework of land use regulations and in accordance with their constitutional authority, to make progress in the management of rural agricultural land,” the official explained.
APPAs are those areas that the government selects individually to guarantee food security and in which livestock, agricultural, and forestry production are prioritized.
