Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun pointed out that China took note of the election result and underscored that “this is Japan’s internal affair.”
However, Guo stated that both countries are close neighbors and reiterated that China’s stance on China-Japan relations is “consistent and clear.”
The spokesperson added that China hopes Japan will “act in the same direction” and abide by the principles established in the four bilateral political documents, as well as the commitments made on historical issues and regarding Taiwan.
He urged “maintaining the political foundation” of bilateral ties and comprehensively promoting the mutually beneficial strategic partnership between the two countries.
China and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1972, and their political and economic exchanges represent an important part of cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, although tensions linked to territorial disputes and historical issues persist.
