Starlink begins operations in India

New Delhi, November 6 (Prensa Latina) The state of Maharashtra has become the first territory in India to sign an agreement with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, the press reported.

The agreement will allow the company led by Elon Musk to provide satellite internet services to government institutions and rural areas, according to the news radio service Newsonair.

Regarding this collaboration, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, commented that it will help overcome the last remaining digital divide by connecting all villages, schools, and health centers, even in the most remote locations.

Last July, India’s National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) granted Starlink permission to launch internet services in the South Asian nation.

Starlink has considered the Indian market since 2022 for the launch of commercial operations. Last April, Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal met with a delegation from the satellite internet services company, which was visiting India.

Goyal indicated that during the meeting with Vice President Chad Gibbs and Senior Director Ryan Goodnight, they discussed existing partnerships and future investment plans for the technology platform in India.
